Girl Scout Cookie Season Begins

BILLINGS - The Girl Scouts are gearing up for their annual season of cookie sales, and 2012 is all the more special with a big milestone.

The scouts traditionally sell millions of boxes of their tasty treats each year, and they're hoping to have an even more successful run this time around. Especially since it's the organization's 100th birthday.

"We're very excited, one, to have our hundredth year, and even more excited this year because we have this great new cookie that we're going to be promo-ing," said Bernie Steffan, the product sales manager for Girls Scouts of Montana and Wyoming.

To commemorate the big occasion, the Girl Scouts will be debuting their new lemon flavored Savannah Smiles cookie, which is named after Savannah, Georgia, where the Girl Scouts were founded in 1912.

Scouts will begin going door-to-door for pre-sales of the cookies starting Saturday.
