Dog Attacked by Bear Adopted

BILLINGS – KULR-8 first told you about Rosie in mid-August, a black lab attacked by a bear in the woods near Columbus. Rescued and brought to the Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter, the call went out to locate her owners.

After weeks of attempts to locate Rosie's owners, the animal shelter went ahead and put her up for adoption. One loving family came forward that needed Rosie as much as she needed them. The first images of Rosie were startling. Barely escaping her bear encounter, Rosie required extensive medical care.

After no one came forward to claim the three-year-old labrador, the Martin's adopted her into their family. "Just a really easy dog to let into your family and love a lot," Vickie Martin said.

Vickie Martin and her family had just lost two of their three dogs.
"It was the morning after we had to euthanize our two sister golden retrievers, so we were already mourning around here and feeling sort of bad," Vickie said.

Then Rosie walked into their lives. "I got up the next morning and Rosie's picture was in the paper and I ran to my husband and said this is the dog I want. This will be perfect," she said.

Vickie works in a vet's office so she can follow up on Rosie's care. Her daughter said Rosie is healing from the bear attack.
"It's scary and it's sad to think that such a sweet dog was hurt by that, but she's doing great," Alecia Martin said.

The Martin's are no strangers to adopting animals; their other dog was also adopted. "She certainly is a great playmate for our other dog and is spoiled rotten," Vickie said.

They said Rosie adds so much to their home. "So much love and finally someone for our other dog to play with and so much happiness again," Alecia said.

"You know she's just the most loving dog you could ever want. I'm so grateful to have her in our family," Vickie said.

A happy ending to a traumatic tale for this playful pup.
