Crash Report Shows Seatbelt Safety

BILLINGS - Do you wear your seatbelt? If your answer is 'no' the results from Montana's 2011 crash report might just change your mind.

In 2011, 74% of traffic fatalities in the state involved people not wearing their seatbelts. Officials say Montanans are getting better about buckling up but still have a long way to go. In December alone, of 18 people who died in crashes 17 were not wearing their seatbelts.

"Wearing a seatbelt is the cheapest life insurance policy there is. It has been proven time and time again that if we can keep occupants in the car the chances of their survival is much greater," Sergeant Jay Nelson said.

He said a no-seatbelt ticket will cost a driver $20. For more seatbelt myth-busting video, just click on Connections.
