BILLINGS - A Billings philanthropist, entrepreneur, athlete, and family man passed away Monday at the age of 76.

Sam McDonald founded Wendy's of Montana in 1976 and since then has given millions of dollars back to the community. His most public donation of $1.4 million went to MSU-B's College of Business. He donated nearly $500,000 to install artificial turf at Daylis Stadium's Wendy's Field.

Sam's son, Greg McDonald, said he is overwhelmed by the support their family is receiving from the community his dad loved so much.

"I just think he will be missed by our family number one, by our Wendy's business number two, and by our community. He certainly went out of his way to make Billings a better place to live for kids and adults, and I'll always miss that," McDonald said.

Sam McDonald leaves behind his son and daughter and four grandchildren. A celebration of life reception in his honor will take place Friday at 5:00 p.m. at the Yellowstone Country Club.
