SANDPOINT, IDAHO - Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter has added Bonner County and two other northern counties to Idaho’s disaster declaration.

Otter added Bonner, Boundary, and Shoshone counties on Friday just days after officials in Bonner County declared a state of emergency due to mounting troubles with weather and road damage. Bonner County Director of Emergency Management Bob Howard told the Bonner County Daily Bee efforts are still under way to compile a thorough estimate of all the roads damaged in recent weeks.

The county has reported damage to roadways from excessive water from snowpack melt, freeze and thaw cycles, and soil saturation that has caused culvert failure and mudslides. Officials say the road repairs outstretch the county's ability to pay for the fixes.

Otter has also issued declarations for Idaho, Clearwater, and Nez Perce counties.
