BILLINGS - Three Montana candidates for attorney general campaigned before their peers Thursday. County attorneys from across the state are in Billings this week for continuing credits courses, and they heard from those vying to be the state's next top litigator.

They all spoke briefly about their backgrounds and what they bring to the job. It was an opportunity for the county attorneys to stay updated on the candidates, as well as the laws they uphold.

"These ladies and gentlemen have to stay current on changes in the law," said the Executive Director of the Montana County Attorneys Association, Jim Smith. "Every time the legislature meets, there's a whole new body of laws that are passed that they need to know and understand and apply in their counties."

So far, Republican Jim Shockley, as well as two democrats, Jesse Laslovich and Pam Bucy, have announced their candidacy for the 2012 attorney general race.
