BILLINGS - Montana's attorney general unveils a new plan against prescription drug abuse, which he calls "The Invisible Epidemic."

"While parents were talking to their kids about alcohol, marijuana and street drugs, a surprising number of kids were figuring out that their parents' medicine cabinets were a treasure trove of free drugs," said Montana Attorney General Steve Bullock at a press conference Tuesday.

Bullock said prescription drug addiction is a contributing factor in the death of 300 Montanans every year, compared to about 20 deaths a year due to meth, heroin and cocaine combined.

Tuesday in Billings, Bullock helped launch a state-wide advertising campaign. The ads urge parents to talk to their kids about using prescription drugs to save lives, not end them.

Thanks Carol, missoula, you said it. Or is the state regulating our pain now too? I hurt my back in a nursing home and live in pain evryday but still work so I need it to function daily. Please don't make me a criminal

Everyone needs to known the correct use of prescription drugs & and how to use them safely, but don't penalize people with legitimate pain who need access to pain meds in order to simply live their lives without being in agony.

I must add that although I agree with what you are doing, as usual, this affects those of us who actually need pain mediciation. Unless you are missing a limb in Montana, no doctor is willing to help and patients live in horrible pain? Where is the line?

I'm so glad that Steve is shining some light on this serious issue. Sadly the video link is not working and you failed to share a link to: invisible epidemic dot com.
