BILLINGS - Newly released military documents reveal new details about the alleged crimes a Billings soldier is accused of committing in Afghanistan.

Staff Sergeant Calvin Gibbs attended Senior High School. He is the most senior of five soldiers charged in the deaths of three afghan civilians in early 2010. Charging documents released Wednesday show Gibbs kept body parts and threatened subordinates. They also allege Gibbs and others in his platoon beat up a soldier who reported drug use in the unit and said they would kill him if he kept talking, and showed him fingers that had been cut from an Afghan corpse.

Gibbs' attorney said he denies being involved in a conspiracy and said all deaths were "appropriate engagement."

Hearings are expected to begin fall 2010.
