BILLINGS - Earth Day is still 5 days away but that didn't stop hundreds of local residents from celebrating early.

Children and adults joined forces with the Montana Audubon Society Saturday in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Crews picked up trash, planted trees and gardens and created wild bird habitats.

Audubon Society Education Director Heather Ristow said the event helps bring "I think folks to often forget our close by natural parks that really have a lot to offer in terms of native birds and plants and mammals. so our goal today is to connect Billings citizens with our natural resources, get them familiar with what's out here so that they'll come out here on their own time."
