BILLINGS - The murder trial of a former Rapelje ranch hand begins Friday in Stillwater County.

Richard Edwards, 41, is accused of murdering 53-year-old Daniel Lavigne in 2002. Investigators said Lavigne was found shot to death in the front yard of his Rapelje home. They said both men were farm workers in Rapelje at the time of the murder.

The jury was selected Friday and opening arguments are slated for Monday. Authorities said Edwards tried to destroy the murder weapon and convince a witness to mislead investigators.

Edwards' bail is set at $1 million dollars. The trial is expected to run through the week.
