Students Fight Distracted Driving

BILLINGS - A group of Bridger High School students collected thumb prints for a good cause Friday.

The group, called "Keep the Drive," wants to stop people from texting and driving, an action they say, combined with other distractions, is the number one killer of teenagers.

They stationed themselves near the food court in Rimrock Mall all day collecting pledges and thumb prints. After just a few hours, the students had gotten more than 200 prints and pledges. Their goal for the day was 1,000.

"It's important because it saves teens' lives, and not only teens lives but everyone's lives," Bridger senior Dillon Thomas said. "Maybe the person that's driving on the other side of the road isn't texting, or maybe that person is texting. It could save their life too if that one person doesn't text and cause an accident."

The students lobbied for safer driving at the mall until 6:30 p.m. Friday, and will continue their efforts throughout the next few months.
