WYOMING - History was made in Wyoming Thursday, when Colin Simpson announced his candidacy for governor. Simpson recently stepped down from his post as speaker of the Wyoming House of Representatives. But, if he is elected Governor, he will be the third generation Simpson to hold high office in Wyoming.

Colin Simpson is son of retired U.S. Senator Alan K. Simpson, and grandson of Milward Simpson, who was governor of Wyoming and served as U.S. Senator from the Cowboy State as well.

Colin Simpson is from Cody. He wrapped up the first day on the campaign trail in Cody, after holding rallies in Cheyenne and Casper. So many friends, family and supporters showed up for the Cody rally, the room had to be expanded and many people had to stand when all the seats were filled. The well wishers gave Colin Simpson a standing ovation, and clapped especially hard when he said he would govern the Wyoming way, not the Washington way. Al Simpson introduced his son, saying he wanted to make it clear the campaign is in no way about him. Simpson said his son might be the best public servant in the family.

Al Simpson said, “To me he may be the distillation of all the rambunctious Simpson’s who have been in politics. I know you won’t believe that but he is. He’s a listener, he’s a coalition builder.” Colin Simpson said if he is elected he plans to expand Wyoming’s economy beyond the boom and bust of the energy industry.
