Sign Language Gains Popularity

BILLINGS - The fifth graders of Rose Park Elementary used a Michael Jackson classic to spread sign language awareness.

It's a sign that international sign language is growing in popularity at area schools. Mrs. McAuliffe's fifth grade class got on stage at the school's annual talent show Thursday afternoon to sign and sing to "Man in the Mirror." Rose Park Elementary has its own after-school sign language class, with more than 50 kids in it.

"It's a beautiful language, so it's nice to share with everyone," Rose Park Elementary School teacher Terry Wheeler said. "It is important because we have deaf students in the school, and then they see their language on the stage and it makes them feel like a part of the school."

The Rose Park Signing Club will perform the song again Thursday night at Lewis and Clark Middle School at 7 p.m.

i just love sign language!! i was in that video! i was the one with the knee thing on!! anyway we have the BEST BEST sign club teacher ever!! thanx mrs.wheeler!!!! woo hooo!!
