BILLINGS - A top aide to Congressman Denny Rehberg plead not guilty Tuesday to poaching charges.

Randy Vogel entered his plea in Madison County Justice Court in Virginia City. He is charged with harvesting a spike bull elk during closed season, abandoning the carcass in the field, killing more than one elk without authorization and obstruction of a peace officer. The incident happened November 18.

Vogel was recently appointed Rehberg's state director. He said the allegations against him appear to be motivated by a political campaign against his boss. Vogel said he asked for a jury trial at his court appearance.
