BILLINGS - Court documents shed new light on Sportsman's Warehouse sudden shut down of its Billings store. In a lawsuit filed one day after the store closed, the company that built the store is asking Sportsman's Warehouse to buy the building or pay damages.

Court documents State McGillis/Eckman Investments of Utah built the building specifically for Sportsman's Warehouse under an agreement that the sporting goods retailer would purchase the building.

Documents say the contract stated the company must pay in full by March 1, 2010. They're asking Sportsman's Warehouse to pay the full $7.5 million for the building. If the judge does not order them to pay in full, the plaintiff is asking for $3 million in damages.

Sportsman's answered the complaint by saying the lease provides for an option, not an obligation, to purchase the building. They also state they filed for bankruptcy in 2009 and renegotiated all real estate contracts at that time.

The case will be heard in U.S. District court in Billings.
