Yes for Kids Kickoff

BILLINGS - Yes for Billings Kids launched its campaign Tuesday by launching balloons at Beartooth Elementary. The group is encouraging voters to support three levies in a May 4th election.

The Montana Legislature funds 80% of school budgets. The remaining 20% must be funded by levies. Karen Sanford-Gall, co-chair of Yes For Kids, said the main goal of the campaign is to educate residents about the levies.

"I believe people will support what they understand, so that's part of what the campaign is striving to do, just educate the community on the importance of (levies)," Sanford-Gall said. "It's not an extra, the 20% the local community is supposed to fund is not an extra. It's our responsibility."

The ballot will have three levies on it. The first is a $1.9 million operational levy to fund regular costs for students in grades K-8.

The other two are technology levies that will fund new equipment. If all three are passed it will increase taxes by about $4 dollars for a $100,000 dollar home. Ballots will be mailed April 13th and are due back May 4th.

I hope that every one of these parents signed an agreement with the school board before their children were used for financial gain by the school.

I know… lets exploit the kids by giving them t-shirts to wear saying “yes to kids”. How rude! Using kids to try and get levies passed. Shame..Shame.. Cut back elsewhere and save money! I’m tired of being taxed to death in our poor economy. Cut some of the non-essential programs and waste and STOP using my kid for your bulletin board!
