BILLINGS - More than 8,000 cans of food are making their architectural debut at the Billings Food Bank this week, and it's all for a good cause.

Cans of tuna, yams, and baked beans never looked so good: teams of students from Rocky Mountain College and MSU Billings have made them into rivers, mountains, and buildings.

"What it is is a group of people, with each team being led by an architect, that is building structures out of canned goods," RMC professor Karen Beiser said. "Then all the cans are donated, and all donations after the competition is done will go to the food bank."

It's called Canstruction: an event organized by the Rocky Students in Free Enterprise to raise funds for the Billings Food Bank.

"It's been great," Beiser said. "It went up so much faster than we thought it would, and everything looks so much better than we had hoped for. We're very excited."

The theme for the event is "Montana" and the groups, headed up by local architects, have gotten pretty creative.

"We ran into some difficulties, cans having a mind of their own and rolling away, but all in all it was good problem solving," SIFE president senior Emily McGeachy said.

The event has already raised about $6,000 dollars for the food bank. If you want to check out the can art, it will be on display at the food bank all week. Prizes for best design, and even best food combination, will be awarded Friday.
