St. V's Changes

BILLINGS - The structure of health care in Billings will face some big changes in the coming months.

Local cancer patients will be redirected to different facilities this year when the Northern Rockies Radiation Oncology Center closes. A statement from Saint Vincent's released Tuesday announced the Center will discontinue practice at the end of October. Patients will be transferred to the Frontier Cancer Center, a new, independently owned facility, currently being built on Grand Avenue. The release from Saint Vincent's states:

"The transition over the next eight months will happen smoothly, with no disruption to patient care."

The new oncology center on the West end is expected to open in August of this year.

Alongside the change in oncology, a restructuring of St. Vincent's cardiology center will also take place in 2010. A brief statement by Saint Vincent's said that Yellowstone Heart Center patients will be shifted to other affiliated programs. Details and reasons surrounding that restructuring remain unclear. Hospital officials would not comment further.
