BILLINGS - Friends and family gathered Saturday to remember Sgt. Jeremiah Wittman, who was killed while on patrol in Afghanistan in February.

His wife lives in South Carolina but he was raised here in Billings. A memorial service for friends and family to celebrate his life was held Saturday afternoon at the Cherry Creek Community Center.

During his military service, Wittman was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Army Good Conduct Medal, and a National Defense Service Medal.

Wittman is survived by his wife and two daughters.
