RED LODGE - There's a community here in Montana that's vying to be the "Coolest Small Town" in the country.

Red Lodge is one of 21 U.S. cities that have been nominated for the title.

Budget Travel Magazine will release the results of their contest in the September issue. They define a "cool small town" as a community of under 10,000 residents that's beginning to draw attention because of its quality of life, restaurant scene and proximity to nature.

"I absolutely think Red Lodge is the coolest town and for many reasons. We have a great ski area. We have scenery that if you could eat it, we'd all be ridiculously wealthy. It's just a great place to live," said Red Lodge resident, Anner Marble.

As one of the few young people who was actually born and raised in Red Lodge, I have to say that after 23 years I still think it's the coolest little town in America. I am fortunate enough to still spend my summers there, and I love all the summer festivities including the Beartooth Rally. It's a great place to go home to, work, meet people and have a great time. I must admit, the police situation is not ideal at times, but I feel like everyone needs to remember something... Police officers are in our communities, big and small, to keep the community safe. Sometimes it might be a little inconvenient when you're here for one of our famous rip roarin' good times (BR, 4th of July, Winter Canival etc,) but when you are dealing with more visitors in one day than the number of full time residents, I can only imagine the stress it adds to the force. So, I believe that RL really is the coolest little town in the US, and as long as you aren't doing anything illegal who cares about cops!

Lets see -- to add Robert and Battina and their new business and their medical marijuana supply--should REALLY help Red Lodge be the COOLEOMGST town in America. NOT !!!!

Redlodge ~was~ a cool town till the mayor and cops started harassing motorcyclists. How is 26 State Troopers pulling riders over in the beartooths during a poker run and forcing to submit to roadside sobriety tests safe? Especially during construction where there is enough hazards already! Profiling? We need to get a bill on the books like Washington's HB 2511 Search youtube for "we've got something to say" Parts 1 - 4 sheesh
