Medical Marijuana

BILLINGS - Nearly 800 Montana's were expected to register for medical marijuana cards Sunday. The Montana Care Givers Network held a workshop right here in Billings to help people register.

The workshop was held to raise awareness about the benefits and laws surrounding medical marijuana. Organizers said it also gives residents an opportunity to apply for a card allowing them to medicate with marijuana.

"We have a call center that runs 7 days a week and we screen every single person that comes through our system, there by eliminating the so called ‘pot heads’ and people who use it for recreational use," Said Jason Christ, Director of the Montana Care Givers Network.

Christ said he plans to hold workshops monthly here in Billings. Medical marijuana became legal in the state in 2004 in a voter-approved initiative.

Still after 4 years we have this discussion on the value of medical cannabis to the sick and suffering. All those that oppose this should spend a day at our clinic in Missoula and see the wheel-chairs , and suffering that is reduced without the use of heavy narcotics. We will never have everyone agree on this application of cannabis, but if those that are opposed are intellectually honest they will have to admit that this is a better way. To PatH and DPS, You need to educate yourselves and stop perpetuating the myths and lies about Cannabis. Kinda sounds like the republicans and health reform. Proper use does not leave one unable to function. No one has ever died from cannabis. Cannabis users do not cause accidents or go on the dole. We are productive members of society. So please upgrade your knowledge base and get ready for reality.

In your rush to create a dependant society with an altered perception of reality have any of you considered the following that affects the rest of us in the real world? Who is going to take responsibility when one of these “patients” causes an accident, in the driver’s seat or otherwise? Who is going to remove the PAIN of those left to deal with senseless and preventable loss of a loved one? With the employment laws how is an employer with a hazardous job going to protect his other employees from one that is impaired because of his “condition”? Oh yea, this drug tends to leave one docile and unmotivated so they will not be in the workforce. This brings up the next problem the public dole. In general this kind of individual has an entitlement attitude; they have the belief that their needs and desires are to be met by others rather than providing for themselves. Quit looking for the quick answer, it is only worth the effort put into it, that is, it is worth little to nothing.

If it was so wonderfull the drug companies would already be refining it and distilling all the "good" stuff out of it so they could make more billions of profit.

Well I am a veteran. The VA does not recognize this method for use. It is illegal and if caught can be used against a veteran or solider against their benefits.

@Leonard Krivitsky, MD, DD ➪ I'm totally sympathetic to your beliefs, however, I've got to wonder where you got your source on the Netherlands having the lowest heroin use in Europe. I lived there and Holland is the only country I've been to where they put blue lights in parking garages and in toilet stalls so people can't see their veins.

This is great news. Finally, people are getting access to natural medicine.

"Eliminating the so called ‘pot heads’"??? The fact is, a good majority of the people running these "businesses" ARE pot heads - I know some of them personally!

Medical marijuana is highly effective in a wide variety of medical conditions, such as malnutrition, pain and muscle spasms, glaucoma, mood swings, intractable insomnia and many others. At the same time the drug has low addiction potential, no lethal overdose amount, and no documented physical withdrawal. The so-called "gateway" hypothesis is a fiction, as many substances, not just nicotine or alcohol, but all the way down to caffeine and sugar, may serve as "gateway". The whole "gateway" drug hypothesis is now discredited by science, and how may it not be the case when the Netherlands where marijuana is all but decriminalized has the lowest rate of heroin abuse in Europe! The supporters of medical marijuana also have an important philosophical advantage: now, that its usefulness is confirmed in at least one condition, it is up to our opponents to show that it is not effective in ALL conditions for which such effectiveness is claimed by patients all over the World.

MCN screens every potential patient for "pot heads"? My butt! I've been to one of these clinics and others who have as well. We've run into many potheads. His so called teleclinics are a joke too. You wait for hours for the doctor to show up online.
