Superintendent Screening

BILLINGS - School District 2 began the screening process to find a new superintendent Tuesday night.

Whoever gets the job will have to make some tough budget decisions. Board members went through nearly two dozen applications. It's just one of the first steps in filling a vital leadership role not only for the district, but for students as well.

Board members said they have a lot of highly qualified candidates who could potentially be running the largest school district in Montana.

School board trustee Malcolm Goodrich said the biggest problem for School District 2 is funding.

They are looking for someone who can relate well with the legislature.

"We've been listening to the community because we did a community wide survey and were looking for someone who has financial acumen and relate well to the community," said Goodrich.

With the tough competition for the job, trustees said they were not able to pare down the list Tuesday night. They will meet again next Monday to try to narrow down the list.

They plan to begin interviewing candidates at the beginning of next month.
