BILLINGS - Hundreds of people packed into Denny's restaurants Tuesday to cash in on a free meal.

From 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Denny's gave away free "Grand Slams" to its customers. Employees at the Overland Avenue location said the free breakfast is meant as a thank you to all of the chain's supporters over the years.

Customers say they love the handout and think it's a great idea.

"Holy buckets, I was starving to death, came down here, didn't even know they were having this big special with the free breakfast. There's probably around 150 people down here, no parking, but no lines and the customer service is awesome," said Shelly True.

Between the west end and downtown restaurants in Billings, Denny's gave away close to 2,000 breakfasts.
