BILLINGS - Billings city council members approved funding to protect pine trees in city parks.

The council approved up to $20,000 dollars to prevent the spread of Mountain Pine Bark Beetles. The funding will be exclusively for trees in developed parks. Members emphasized that residents need to be aware of the beetles and now is the time to begin preparing for infestation.

Pine beetles typically are most active around June 15th.

Also, the council approved a 20-year plan to update Billings Logan International Airport.
