A Dream Come True

BILLINGS - Residents at Vintage Suites Retirement Home are learning that dreams can come true at almost any age.

For more than 30 years, 86 year-old Arline Jerome created all of the costumes for the West High Majorettes. Hundreds of women have donned the uniforms Jerome cut, sewed and mended, including KULR-8's own Katie Ussin and Lindsey Scheetz.

Vintage Suites caregiver, Marci Barman, heard Jerome talking about the majorettes and though she could do something to make Jerome's dreams of being re-united with her girls come true. "I have so much respect for her. Probably a lot of people have respect for her"

On Friday night, dozens of members of the West High Majorette Corps came together to honor Jerome. "Its just a fun night; I wanted to give back to her for all she gave to us," Barman said. The Majorettes performed in some of the old costumes sewn by Jerome. Jerome said seeing her old uniforms again was an honor but the highlight of her night was being re-united with former majorette coach Charles Nesbit.

"We didn't want just any old seamstress to tie ends together. We wanted the best and Mrs. Jerome is the very best," Nesbit said. Jerome said she and Nesbit created the costumes together. She said she built them and he designed them. "I think Charlie dreamed it up, maybe he didn't sleep much at night."

Jerome spent countless hours putting together the outfits and although it was a lot of work she said she didn't mind. "I did it out of love, you know." A love she said she was reminded of this weekend.
