BILLINGS - Friday was the deadline to apply for the position of Chief of Police for the city of Hardin.

Mayor Kim Hammond said 25 people have applied so far, and said a few more might arrive before the end of the day. The mayor said they'll interview the top five candidates, and then pick three for the final interview.

She said it'll be tough though because of the quality of applicants, "I'm just blown away, to tell you the honest truth.” She added that she’s “very optimistic about this, the committee is selecting our top ten each, and we'll sit down next Thursday over that and see how many of us match up."

Mayor Hammond said they could fill the position by the end of the month.
