Tinkerbell Returned to Shelter

BILLINGS - The recent death of a kitten and her owner in Missoula has brought attention to animal abuse. The Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter in Billings accepts pets from all city residents.

Thursday night a three-year-old miniature Pinscher mix named Tinkerbell was dropped off. She was adopted out three months ago. Her owner returned her, unable to properly care for the dog. Veterinarians said she was extremely underweight and had badly frost-bit ears and tail.

Chris Anderson, Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter director, said people should remember the shelter before a situation with a pet turns bad.

"We will take them and find them new homes regardless of the condition they're in, regardless of the situation you're in," said Anderson. "That's what we're here for is to be a place of transition for these animals and for people. Thank you to the man who brought her in because she needed to come back and get healthy."

Anderson said Tinkerbell will need care for the next couple weeks before possibly being put up for adoption. Last year, the shelter took in 1,300 animals.
