Billings Ranks "Third Drunkest City"

Tools

By Arianna Bennett

BILLINGS - A new ranking places Billings third in the nation, but the reason may not be a cause for celebration.

The March issue of Men's Health magazine has Billings as the 3rd drunkest city in the U.S. The magazine tallied statistics for DUI numbers, death rates from liver disease, alcohol-related car crashes, and frequency of binge drinking. Billings came out as number three behind Fresno, California and Reno, Nevada.

And Montana's drinking is costing the state some serious cash. A study out of the University of Montana estimates the economic cost of alcohol abuse to be more than $640 million dollars. Alcohol-related injury crashes alone cost the economy $131 million dollars a year.

The full list of America's drunkest cities will appear in Men's Health magazine's March edition.

Of course they are focusing on the affects of alcohol, kgee - it's a serious problem. Smoking may be nasty, as you say, but at least one doesn't have to worry about a smoker getting behind the wheel of a car & running some innocent person over! If somebody drinks, that's their business but if they drink & drive, it's everyone's business!

Oh no they are pointing out the affects of alcohol instead of focusing all their attention on those nasty smokers.

Show us where the cerdibility of research and statistics came from. From what I can see Billings police do a great job on patrol versus Great Falls where I witnessed drunk drivers every where. With very few on patrol, it was easy for these drunk drivers to get away with it. I think the information can be swayed how the writer wants it to look.

When will we get rid of the drunk judges that keep puting drunks back on the road?? I am cripeled for life by a drunk driver. Its worse than meth! Is alc. tax worth the suffering it allows the rest of us to bare?
