Carbon County Losses

BILLINGS – Carbon County Commissioners said they're under-prepared for a winter storm following a shop fire earlier this month.

Commissioners received just less than $100,000 dollars from the Montana Association of Counties to help cover losses from the fire. Losses are currently estimated at a little less than a million dollars.

Commissioner Jim Prinkki said the loss of a snowplow has left them under-prepared for winter storms. He said shopping for a replacement may take some time.

In the meantime the Department of Transportation has lent the county a plow and Red Lodge Mountain is also offering assistance.

Prinkki said they'll likely re-build in the same location, but are considering other options. He hopes to break ground on the new building in May.
