Homeless Vigil

BILLINGS - December 21st is the first day of winter and the longest night of the year. In light of that, Billings residents held a candlelight vigil on the court house lawn Monday afternoon to remember the homeless who have passed away.

Riverstone Health care worker Clarence Salley says 2-to-3 homeless people die in Billings every month from exposure, terminal illness and addiction. He says it is important that the community remembers that homelessness affects everyone.

"Look next door or down the street, there's someone that they could offer food or clothing or even a kind word of encouragement." said Salley.

Clarence says the winter months are some of the harshest for the homeless to endure because they often times are unprotected and are exposed to extremely cold temperatures.
