BILLINGS - After months of delays, the Billings City Council finally approved the controversial Sahara Park pool project.

The Better Billings Foundation will build the pool with private donations then own and operate the facility.

The approved proposal calls for the group to raise 4 million dollars as well as provide the city with a performance bond before they begin construction on the project.

"This is a huge step in the process and we are very excited that the council gave us the opportunity to work with the community and to continue our process of building an aquatic center for the community," said Chuck Barthuly, Better Billings Foundation Executive Director.

Barthuly also said construction should begin in 6 to 18 months.
