MetraPark Concert Sales

BILLINGS - Officials from the MetraPark concert facility in Billings say the recession is having a negative impact on ticket sales for concerts and other events.

So far, MetraPark reported ticket sales of nearly $870,000 between July and November, down from $2 million reported during the same period a year ago. The 2009 totals are also down from ticket sales reported during the same six months in 2007 and 2006.

MetraPark Comptroller Jodi Henke says the market has been soft and the tough economy has finally caught up to spending on big-name concerts.

Officials cited a series of big events in November 2008 that generated more than $886,000 in ticket sales for the month, including concerts by Carrie Underwood and Nine Inch Nails. That compares to November 2009 ticket sales of just $89,600.

We have never been to an event at MetraPark--who can afford the tickets!? Perhaps a lower ticket price would result in higher ticket sales and more income.

This should be a wake up call for the board.

When tickets go for $80-100 who can afford it? Keep tickets down to the $30 range and pack the place. No act is worth more then that!

I have always believed the Metra has never wanted to compete with other cities when it comes to concerts. Look what they did for Elton John. What a waste of space.
