BILLINGS - Dozens of area residents took a plunge into the freezing Lake Elmo waters Saturday to help raise money for the Special Olympics. Plungers hyped themselves up before making the big jump with the help of many local supporters.

More than 80 participants braved the water for the event. One participant and organizer, Nicole Knight, said the moments before the jump are the hardest part. "You psyche yourself out for it to be a lot worse than it actually is."

Saint Nicholas and Mrs. Clause we're even there to support the cause. "You know I just want to help and put our part in. Vivian and I, my Mrs. Clause is in the warm tent. But yeah, you know it’s no worse than ice fishing."

Numbers show the event raised more than $31,000 dollars. Knight said all the money stays in Montana.

"It helps all of our athletes here in the state of Montana. Every bit of money raised stays right here in the state and you know its a few minutes of discomfort for a whole lot of help for our athletes and the programs that really help them."
