Ice Shoes

BILLINGS - The snow and ice should be sticking around over the next few days, and a popular attachment for your shoes can make it easier to get around.

When the rubber crampons started appearing on store shelves some customers said it couldn't happen soon enough.

"People looked at the device and finally there is something for the consumer that is easy to put on casual footwear and save them from the injury of a slip and fall. " said Base Camp employee Paul Lintern.

The spikes run from about $20 dollars on up and fit most shoes and boots. In times of bad weather the ice spikes can sell out quickly to morning walkers, dog walkers, and people that need to work in icy conditions.

The Montana Schools Group Insurance Authority has seen the success of the ice spikes and purchased more than 1,100 pairs to give to teachers and staff at 377 different school districts in Montana. They will provide a variety of sizes for staff to wear for playground duty, and general safety in an effort to reduce accidents.
