BILLINGS - A recent study suggests Montana teens are abusing prescription drugs at an alarming rate. Montana teens rank in the top third in the nation for prescription drug abuse.

Montana Attorney General Steve Bullock has appointed a six member team to educate the public, investigate, and prosecute prescription drug abuse. Billings Police Chief Rich St. John is on a state appointed prescription drug advisory board. He says the issue has major consequences.

"Deaths by prescription drugs far out number those of traditional hard drugs, homicides, and even traffic accidents," said Billings Police Chief Rich St. John.

The Montana Department of Justice reports more than 2000 prescription-drug related deaths since 2001.
