BILLINGS – Americans lost 190,000 jobs in October, as the national unemployment rate rises above 10% for the first time in 26 years.

Montana's September unemployment rate was 6.7%. October's numbers won't be out until November 20th, but John Harper with Billings Job Services said he's seen more people at their office.

Stephanie Bauer has been looking for a job since May and said it's easy to lose your self worth.

"I just want to start working again so that we don't have to scrape by anymore," said the registered nurse.

Economist Scott Rickard said if businesses continue seeing increased sales, firms will eventually start hiring again. Unfortunately, he said about 800,000 people have given up looking for work.

A lot of people have lost their jobs and are really having a hard time finding nnew ones....its not always easy to get a decent paying job ina different field so people get stuck and discouraged looking in the same field where there might not be openings....lately, experienced workers seem to be at a disadvantage because employers feel they are overqualified or too expensive.....go figure.....!
