Rehberg Town Hall

By Brenda Bassett

BILLINGS - Residents filed into the Petro Theatre at MSU-Billings to express their concerns on the new health reform bill Saturday. Montana Congressmen, Denny Rehberg, said he scheduled the town hall meeting to listen, learn and help.

Rehberg said Nancy Pelosi's trillion-dollar bill has no guarantees and doesn't cater to rural areas like Montana. "We want the right kind of change, we want the right kind of reform, we want the right kind of opportunities to still have the access and affordability that we demand and desire. There are many different ways other than the government run healthcare programs or government mandated programs," said Rehberg.

Many attendees want transparency from insurance providers and are concerned with healthcare prices. "This bill misses the boat and I think congress is missing the boat completely. We first need to lower costs and this doesn't do it. We have to have competition," said A.J Otjen, who said she’s running for U.S. Congress.

Many questions were simply left unanswered because of time constraints, but Rehberg encourages the public to stand up through phone calls, e-mails and letters saying, "We need the impassioned interest and involvement in information that you all can provide."

Rehberg said congress is working behind closed doors and that the bill written by house democrats will hit the house floor by Friday.
