Immunity Boost

BILLINGS - As the flu season hits its stride, it's important to know that eating right can help you avoid getting sick and some foods actually boost your immune system.

Dietitians encourage shopping for lean proteins including beef and chicken. Look for foods that are rich in vitamin C and vitamin A, such as bell peppers, pumpkins, squash or broccoli. Yogurt is also a healthy snack that fights off harmful bacteria.

Dietitians say look for color when making a healthy choice.

"You're looking for your fruits and vegetables that are deep, rich in colors. You want to shoot for all the colors of the rainbow. You know your green, yellow, red and orange," said Krystie Nelson, a Registered Dietitian at Billings Clinic.

Officials also remind you that staying hydrated and getting enough sleep are key elements to staying healthy.
