BILLINGS - Police escorted a convoy of truckers to and from Laurel Saturday to raise money for Special Olympics.

The Montana leg of the fifth annual World's Largest Truck Convoy rolled through Billings Saturday morning.

38 states and two Canadian provinces took part in the event. Truckers donated $100 dollars to Special Olympics for their spot in the convoy.

The Billings Law Enforcement Torch Run helped organize the event. Officials said the only people that enjoy the event more than truckers are the athletes.

“They got to ride in the Hummer as Grand Marshalls and were very excited about riding in the Hummer and being part of the convoy,” said BLETR Liason Sheryl Shockley, “but knowing that people care to come and raise money and help them do what they do it makes them feel good."

Officials said the group raised a little more than $5,000 dollars Saturday between the convoy, silent auction, and raffle.

Funds will be used to pay for competitions as well as travel and leadership expenses.
