Lee the Horse Logger

BILLINGS- Living in 77 square feet without electricity, heat or running water may not sound like a good idea to everyone, but for Lee the Horse Logger it is home sweet home. Lee has chosen to travel across the U.S. in a horse-drawn covered wagon. And the only company he has are his 3 suffolk punch horses and Katie, his pyrenees dog.

He began his trip almost 3 years ago when he left his job as a logger in East Glacier Montana. And so far, he has traveled 6000 miles. Lee says there are a lot of things that make life on the road difficult. "the lack of sleep and basically normality. You're sleeping in a different spot every night and seeing different people. Other than my phone I really don't have communication with people I see continuously, you know."

Despite his hardships, Lee says he's enjoying his trip. And he says he's met some of the friendliest people along the way. He estimates that he has met almost 500,000 people over the course of his trip already and he plans to add to that number as he makes his way to California and then Alaska. A trip he says he expects to complete by 2012.

I saw Lee and his rig this evening Mar. 6, 2010 on Rainier Ave just north of Renton WA. The clip clop of his horses hooves brought back fond memories of many happy hours spent as a younster on our farm.... Good luck to you Lee!
