BILLINGS - A board member from the YMCA group in Burma, also called Myanmar, came to Billings Friday to speak about the devastation following a cyclone that hit that country last year.

Sonny Nyen works with the christian group Vision Beyond Borders in bringing aid to victims of Cyclone Nargis. In May of 2008, the natural disaster killed thousands, leaving Burmese children orphaned and without food or healthcare. The Burma YMCA group has since partnered with volunteers in Montana and Wyoming to bring aid to those in need.

"Ours is a developing country, so we need a lot of help. We help with education, healthcare and micro-financing. But, at the same time we work on livelihood, especially for the youth and people with emergency needs," says Sonny Nyen.

The group has completed two orphanages for Burmese children. There are plans to build three more.
