"My name is Michael Hill and I'm seven years in remission."

At age 6, Michael was diagnosed with a rare kidney cancer that primarily affects children between the ages of three and eight called Wilms' Tumor.

"It was very hard because it was one of those Reader's Digest moments when you're at Target and the next thing you know you've found a lump on your child and trying to get them into a doctor," said Michael's mom Maureen Maloughney.

Michael flew to the Children's Hospital in Denver to have his nearly three-pound tumor removed, along with his left kidney, and undergo radiation therapy. He finished up with six months of chemo in Billings.

"To see your child go through that, the pain that he went through was horrific," said Maloughney.

Michael and his family have not missed a relay event since, and through fundraising efforts he manages to raise $5,000 dollars a year to go towards cancer research.

"Every moment is precious and even now I know that it might happen again and I just want to be able to do everything I've ever wanted to do in life and have no regrets," he said.

"It's very emotional and every year you see those luminarias and until you experience it I cannot explain to you the feeling that I have regarding it, but I look at this 14 year old and he's 5'8" and ready to go to West High and I just feel very blessed," said Maloughney.
