Police & Fire Departments Team Up

BILLINGS - The Billings Police Department wants to get the word out about a zero tolerance for fireworks in the city during the holiday weekend.

Police officers and firefighters will team up in patrol cars and respond to firework calls together. Officials say they will confiscate fireworks from anyone caught using any type of firework in city limits and they will issue fines.

Police Chief Rich St. John says having both departments team up is a natural partnership.

"It allows us to put double the cars out there, had the firefighters not come with us this year we'd be doubling cars and it would cut the number of people we had out there," said St. John.

Prior to last year, officers would issue warnings before confiscating fireworks. Now they are fining people on the spot.

if u could see some of the damage people do with there fireworks u would agree with the law. since we live so close together here in billings u would have to agree that some people dont know when to stop. its nice to open a window and get some fresh air and crawl into bed. but not lay there till 3;00 am because of fireworks going all night. or wondering if someones rocket just embedded itself in ur roof. after ur home burns down ur gonna think it was a great idea that the PD FD teamed up.
