BILLINGS - An Ashland woman is dead after being hit by a van near Busby early Friday morning.

Montana Highway Patrol Troopers say a van carrying five people struck what they thought was an animal around 3:30 a.m. Friday morning on Highway 212. Officials say they actually hit was a 22-year-old Ashland woman who was wearing all dark clothing and was intoxicated.

Troopers say the van kept driving until it was stopped at the Battlefield Exxon. The van's driver, Jose Barrera, has been charged with failure to remain at the scene of a fatal accident, driving with a suspended registration and driving without insurance.
