BILLINGS - Sutton's Sportswear closed its doors Thursday. The store made shirts, hats and other apparel for resorts, corporations and sports teams.

It was started in 1981 by Billings entrepreneurs Harold and Susie Sutton. They sold it in January of 2007. Sutton's has been struggling to make ends meet for the past year.

In a statement to KULR-8, Mark Heydon, company president, said about the employees, "They have taken this as an opportunity to celebrate the great things we have accomplished together over the years rather than focus on the negatives of the here and now."

Sutton's is the largest single layoff so far this year in Billings. Statewide, Montana has shed more than 10,000 jobs in the past year. Yellowstone County has remained relatively stable employing around 76,000 people.
