Trek for Change

BILLINGS - A group of young adults are treking across the country to make a statement.

"We're on a cross country bike trip to talk to people about sustainability," said J.P. Kemmick, the organizer of the event. The trek to re-energize America is his idea. The 24-year-old lives in Seattle now but was raised in Billings.

The group set out from Seattle 19 days ago. They're heading to Washington D.C. and are stopping along the way to learn about sustainable projects taking place across the nation.

"We spend a lot of time behind our computers," Kemmick said. "We wanted to talk to real people in real communities."

When they reach Washington, the group will share these stories with politicians. "We have appointments set up to talk to them about the stories we've collected," Kemmick said. "We hope the fact that we spent 70 days talking to people will give us more of a say."

The trip across the nation takes them over the Rocky Mountains and through the prairies, and they're hauling everything they need to survive on their bikes.

They hope to make it to Washington by July 26th.
