Dogs Maybe Adoptable

BILLINGS - Yellowstone County asks a judge for permission to begin adoption proceedings for hundreds of dogs confiscated from a Ballantine breeder.

The proposal will be heard by Judge Susan Watters on June 2nd. If approved, it would allow the more than 200 dogs to go to new homes if interested parties post a $200 dollar bond. It would later be determined whether that money would go to the county or the breeder, Linda Kapsa. County officials say it's the best option for the dogs.

"I think it's a wonderful idea for the animals. To have this many in captivity, it's very difficult for the dogs. Once they get into their private homes and get separated out, they'll have a much better life," says John Fleming with Yellowstone County Animal Control.

Officials say the upcoming summer months will be particularly tough for the animals being housed at the Metra barns. Meantime, Kapsa's animal cruelty trial is set for July 13th.
