Baucus Sworn in for 6th Term

By Kathy Weber

BILLINGS - U.S. Senator Max Baucus of Montana begins his 31st year on the job. Baucus was sworn in to a sixth term in the U.S. Senate Tuesday.

The 67-year-old Democrat says the economy and the nation's health care system are top priorities. Baucus is ranked eighth most senior in the Senate and will jump to number seven when Joe Biden resigns to become Vice President. Baucus says he's humbled by the opportunity.

"I've served Montana 34 years and frankly I'm just hitting my stride. It's such an honor, I couldn't be luckier I've got the best job in the world."

Montanans first elected Baucus to the U.S. Senate in 1977 after he served two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. U.S. Senator Jon Tester of Montana joined Baucus at the swearing in ceremony. Baucus said, "I'm ready to stand shoulder to shoulder with Jon Tester to get to work for Montana."
