Around 200 Dogs in Good Hands

BILLINGS - A little less than 200 dogs are being cared for after they were seized by the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Department from a Balentine breeder and volunteers continue to lend a hand to animals in need.

"They've been feeding and watering for us, right now we've cleaned up stalls, resituated and re-bedded with new saw dust so the animals are a little more comfortable," said the Yellowstone County Sheriffs Department's John Flemming.

Organizers say caring for so many animals is far from chaos, the volunteer work has taken on more of an assembly line look as one group goes door to door with food, another group trails behind picking up the mess, and a third group helps putting up new fencing.

To help volunteer all you need to do is show up at MetraPark, officials say even lending a couple hours is great. If you want to donate money to the animals all checks or cash need to go through the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Department.

I hope they pass the law (where is was denied last year) where "commercial" dog breeders need a licence. This latest operation has required so many volunteers and donations just to keep up this many dogs. This should be proof enough that inspections are required for "commercial aka puppy mills" and they should also be taxed! If you try to make a living at mass breeding and mistreatment of dogs then you damn sure should pay taxes on your "company/job" just like the rest of us!!

I think they need to strengthen the laws regarding any type of abuse to animals - dogs to horses. I'm so sick of the "slap-on-the-wrist" these people get. This woman needs to be caged under the same conditions she kept the dogs, she needs to be kept from EVER owning ANY animals, not even a goldfish!! Ans she needs to be fined w/the monies going to the care of these dogs in custody now.
