BILLINGS - School District 2 trustees put to rest speculation that one or more Billings schools might be up for sale and that kids may be out of a spring break at their meeting Monday night.
At the board meeting Monday night members discussed a letter from the Highlands Golf Course about interest in buying Highland Elementary. Word got out and worried many parents who have children attending the school. However School District 2 Superintendent Jack Copps stressed that the letter was not solicited. "Our schools are not for sale. We have people who are interested in at least discussing the possibility of a purchase, but the board is making it very clear Monday evening that they are not interested."
The Budgeting for Results Committee gave their opinion that Rimrock School should not be sold to Rocky Mountain College. The college proposed purchasing the former kindergarten earlier this year.
Members approved a buy-sale agreement with the city of Billings for a 10 acre site in Cottonwood park for $200,000. The land on the west end could be the site of a new school in the next 10 years.
The board also discussed the possibility of eliminating spring vacation, but voted against the motion.
